This is in response to the poem in which we read about Key West. I loved this poem in many ways. It had a haunting way of describing the scenery and magic that goes on within the place and of its people. You could really tell that the poet was touched, deeply, by the location and the power that it held and still holds. I feel as though locations in this world are something we as humans love to brag on. Everyones hometown is always better than someone elses hometown, or home state, and so on. Places can shape and mold us. Put a "mark" on some of us, they say. Sometimes the places within the world, can be larger than the world itself. At least to the individuals it's honored by. It's a beautiful and powerful thing.

How Do I Love Thee???
Allowing the words to soak within
I felt the rush of peace upon myself
beginning on my brow
my face began to relax
my thoughts were seemingly surreal;
thoughts that wouldn't let go
and they were more than welcomed to stay

-This is my poem response to the poem; "How Do I Love Thee". The poem (How Do I Love Thee) speaks to me in a great way. I believe it to be a very powerful piece. It makes me think of my girlfriend, Kelsey. Of how much she means to me, on many levels. Not just in ways that seem cliche or given, but in ways that only I could explain. Ask my friends or family, my head hasn't been the most clear or peaceful in the last little duration of time, but she (Kelsey) seems to bring out the courage inside me, and truly aids me when I feel weak. She's a great friend and lover. And, I don't mean "lover" in such a sexual way, as much as just someone who shows me affection as I do for her. I've never been one for sticking with a girlfriend for too long, but I can honestly say that I'm truly happy with her. I'm proud of the person she helps me be; myself.

Emily Dickinson
The poem of Emily Dickinson's is very true about life and such. But, can one really decipher it wholely? I don't really mean to sound like someone who knows the "perfect" way to analyze a poem or anything of the sort, but the poem seems to be written in a well open-ended manner. Emily Dickinson, wherever she was emotionally when she wrote this and wherever she got her motivation for the story, wrote a great poem that makes us ask questions and search to feel our own personal sense from and of the words in which we digest from this passage. It's not so much one necessarily finds the meaning of the poem in itself, but to search for a meaning through the poetry that helps uncover themselves and their feeling of emotion in the universe.

The story, in my eyes, holds an evident truth about how we sometimes (more so than not) have this idea of great, blissful entities having to be in perfect and angelic form. All that glitters isn't gold, as the saying goes. This old, feeble man with enormous wings is of great despair and disrepair for a great deal of time in the story, and sought upon as an almost kind of "anti christ" circus animal. Like the song, "What if God were one of us", would we shun and gawk at a being of holiness and truth? The greatest of miracles can shine through in the most strangest of ways, we just have to choose whether or not we see the light. And too, this man, feeble and as broken down as he appeared to be, all the while had the ENORMOUS wings. Those wings were potential and hope. Hopes that one day soon he wouldn't be grounded and placed into a cynical category designed by judgmental humans, but forever fly in a kingdom of angels.
